The National Snow Show 2022 – speaker highlights

Over the weekend of 15-16 October, The National Snow Show will be hosting an amazing line up of speakers, whatever your snowsport discipline or ability level. On the Snow Stage, hosts Chemmy Alcott and Scott Penman will welcome loads of big names from the world of snow, offering visitors tonnes of inspiration as well as insights into their careers and lives. Tord Nilson will be hosting the Snow Skills Cabin, where visitors will enjoy educational sessions to help upskill their snow encounters.
Here’s a few of our session highlights to help you plan your visit.

Best for Olympic inspiration
If you’re looking for inspiration from some of our Olympians and Paralympians, you’re spoiled for choice across the whole weekend. From snowboarding greats like Katie Ormerod, Billy Morgan, Aimee Fuller and Jenny Jones, to skier Graham Bell, ski jump legend Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards and sit-skier Anna Turney, their careers on and off the slopes will inspire you to push towards your own goals, whatever they may be.

Best for beginners
If you’re going to hit the slopes for the first time this winter, don’t miss Kimberley Kay’s session on Sunday at 2.45pm in the Snow Cabin, when she’ll be sharing her knowledge, gleaned over 40 years of ski experience, to give beginners top tips before they head out on their first ski or snowboard trip.

Best for careers advice
Anyone looking considering a career on the snow should make sure they head over to the Skills Cabin on Saturday morning to catch the sessions led by The British Association of Snowsport instructors and NUCO at 10.15am and 11.30am respectively. Their team of experts will be sharing their industry knowledge to help you get a ski boot in the door.

Best for skiing on a budget
If a ski holiday seems unaffordable as the cost of living increases, the panel session on ‘Getting to the slopes for less’ is a must-see. Join experts from Crystal Ski Holidays, Snow Camp and Eco Ski 1.45pm on Saturday in the Snow Cabin for their top tips on how to save money when organising your ski holiday.

Best for skiing sustainably
We know that there is a carbon footprint associated with our snowsport holidays, whether we drive or fly to the slopes. But, what if we drove an electric car – is that even possible? In this session at 11am on Sunday in the Snow Cabin, Iain Martin explores just that, based on his experience of driving to the Alps.

Best for safety tips
Snowsports are loads of fun, but obviously come with some amount of danger. Across the weekend there are a few sessions in the Skills Cabin that will educate you to minimise risk as much as possible on your holiday. On Sunday at 11.45am, avalanche dog handler Caroline offers her first-hand advice in maximising safety on the slopes. On Saturday at 3.15pm, Tony Soutter from the Soutter Foundation leads an important session about concussion, because knowing the signs can save lives.

Best for off-pisters
If you’re considering off-piste skiing and snowboarding, then check out these sessions in the Skills Cabin. On Saturday at 11:00, Pete from Backdrop Journal is running an introduction to using a splitboard to ride more of the mountain. Later, at 2.45pm, James from Ski Exchange goes through the tech, equipment and advice needed when leaving the piste. Then, in their session at 2.15pm on Sunday, the team from snow magazine Fall-Line will be exploring the gear and equipment needed to take on the backcountry.
