Omar Elkadi

Omar’s work in climate and nature started on the snow.

He spent several seasons as a ski instructor, including time at Falls Creek in Australia, and the mountains have shaped most of what he’s done since. Alongside a career in climate and nature finance, he spent close to two years as Head of Events, helping relaunch Protect Our Winters Australia. That meant bringing the ski community together around climate action and getting to know the resorts and people behind it.

He went on to work in decarbonisation and the energy transition across financial institutions and hard-to-abate sectors. In 2026 he founded Twintree, which helps mountain communities and other nature-dependent businesses understand what climate and nature risk means for them in financial terms, decide what to do about it, and find the funding to make it happen.

His view is that good intentions rarely move the budgets for change; good numbers do, and so do the communities behind them. The mountains and places we love deserve more than good intentions.

Outside work he’s usually out of the city: by the ocean, skiing, watching Newcastle United, or plotting a way back to the mountains.
